SSP Foundation
Working to combat food poverty
The SSP Foundation is an independent UK Registered Charity (number 1163717), which aims to help alleviate food poverty by providing financial support to other UK registered charities that are working directly to tackle this important societal issue.
For the past few years, we have been supporting food poverty charities with fundings grants, as well as sending donations to charities nominated by SSP colleagues.
FareShare
Since 2022, the Foundation has raised money through a charity gala and auction to support FareShare, the UK’s largest food redistribution charity, which strengthens communities by distributing good to eat surplus food to charities and community organisations. The donations we made, totalling more than £500,000 have funded the purchase of new five lorries for FareShare's fleet, helping vital surplus food reach over 1,500 charities across the UK and supporting the redistribution of over five million meals throughout the year.
Trussell
The Foundation has supported Trussell, the UK’s largest community of food banks by funding Trussell’s Help through Hardship helpline, run in partnership with Citizens Advice, which connects people on the lowest incomes to advisors that can offer personalised advice on matters like mental health, housing and accessing social security payments they are eligible for.
More recently, we supported their Food Bank Resilience Programme, to ensure that anyone who comes to a food banks receive a warm welcome and extra support if they need it.
Annual Christmas giveaway
As part of our annual SSP Foundation Christmas giveaway, each year we donate £1,000 grants to up to 100 food poverty charities nominated by our colleagues. Examples of the local charities that have received grants are the Black Country Food Bank, Scarborough Social Action Centre, Hornsey Food Bank and the Edinburgh Food Project.
