London Bridge is the UK’s fourth busiest railway station. A £1bn transformation to bring the station up to 21stcentury standards was recently completed. The investment led to the creation of a new, spacious street level concourse complete with new bars, restaurants and retail stores, ensuring the station became a true destination for local food lovers and shoppers as well as travellers.
SSP has updated its food and beverage offer at London Bridge to reflect this modern vision. Among the new brands on offer are Urban Express, a sleek one-stop shop offering travel staples such as magazines, newspapers and confectionery alongside premium products from some of the UK’s leading brands. These include: frozen, homemade ready meals from Cook; wine in quarter, half and full bottles from Berry Bros. & Rudd and a range of books from Foyles including the retailer’s ‘top picks’.
London Stansted is London’s third-busiest airport, serving around 18 million passengers a year and providing quick and convenient transport links to the capital. It is operated by Manchester Airports Group (MAG), with whom SSP worked to open five new food and beverage units as part of an £80 million transformation when the group acquired the airport location.
More recently SSP has further strengthened its partnership with MAG with the addition of new food and beverage outlets at London Stansted. The Camden Bar & Kitchen encapsulates the urban cool of London’s famous markets, with an eye-catching design created by students from St Martin’s College and renowned graffiti artists, the Graffiti Kings. The upstairs restaurant serves classic dishes including fish and chips, burgers and salads along with meals from some of London’s biggest street food vendors, while passengers can also relax with a craft beer from the famed Camden Town Brewery at the downstairs bar.
Birmingham Airport is the preferred national and international aviation hub for the Midlands and now handles just under 13 million passengers per year, a 40% growth since 2013. The airport aims to become one of Europe’s leading airports and has revealed its Master Plan to make it ‘The Midlands Gateway to the World’, which will lead to improved facilities, an enhanced route network and new job opportunities.
SSP operates many leading brands at Birmingham Airport, including the award-winning Bottega Prosecco Bar, which was recently named Airport Bar of the Year at the Drinks International Travel Retail Awards. The Factory Bar & Kitchen, also from SSP, is a modern bar and restaurant that showcases the very best of contemporary British cuisine, and is heavily-inspired by Birmingham’s diverse culinary scene, offering classic British dishes alongside freshly-prepared pizzas and Indian flavours.
SSP has also worked with Birmingham Airport to launch the UK’s first airside M&S Food to Go. The outlet provides travellers with a broad selection of all-day food and drink products including wholesome wraps, freshly-made baguettes, sushi, salads, hot bacon rolls, and coffee prepared by specially-trained baristas.
Opened in 1842, Manchester Piccadilly is the busiest of Manchester’s five stations with 24.5 million passengers passing through the station annually. Its links to other industrial towns and cities means it remains an important transport hub to this day.
SSP’s outlets at Manchester Piccadilly range from kiosks to seated areas to suit the needs of the broad range of passengers using the station. Recognised international and local brands including Burger King and Upper Crust sit alongside bespoke concepts such as James Martin Kitchen, a bakery and café serving grab and go food and beverages prepared using the highest quality ingredients.
Most recently, SSP opened a premium bar concept called The Mill, where customers can enjoy food served throughout the day, including stone-baked pizzas, along with an extensive selection of beers and wines.
The busiest airport on the island of Ireland by passenger traffic with 31 million pax per year, Dublin Airport welcomes a vast array of travellers on short, medium, and long-haul flights. SSP meets the many different needs of these passengers with a wide selection of food and beverage outlets, including internationally-renowned brands such as Burger King and Starbucks. It also operates a number of its own brands and bespoke concepts including Upper Crust.
SSP partners with local suppliers to ensure strong provenance at The Chocolate Lounge and its three bars – The Slaney, Flutes and The Angels Share – to hero local products, such as Dublin’s much loved Granby sausages.
Belfast International Airport is Northern Ireland’s busiest airport with an average of more than six million passengers passing through every year. SSP has a wide range of food and beverage outlets at Belfast International, and recently updated and refurbished all of its units to improve the overall experience for customers, expanding seating areas and bringing in new technology such as digital menu screens. A new Ritazza outlet was introduced together with premium bar Sip & Stone, which now sit alongside SSP’s existing units such as Lagan Bar, Burger King and Starbucks.
