SSP wins £32 million contract at Nantes Atlantique Airport, France

SSP, the leading dedicated provider of food and beverage brands in travel locations worldwide, has secured a £32 million (€40 million) five-year contract to run five outlets and two mobile units at Nantes Atlantique Airport, starting from July this year.

The new outlets will encompass a range of restaurants and cafés, including a brasserie called Le Grand Comptoir, an outlet of the leading French bakery brand Brioche Dorée, two bars, a coffee shop, a mobile coffee unit and a mobile convenience store.

Commenting on the deal, Andrew Lynch, CEO of SSP, said: 'This latest contract win for SSP cements our position as a dominant player in France’s air and rail sectors, and builds on our presence at Paris Charles de Gaulle, Paris Orly and Lyon St Exupéry airports as well as Gare de Lyon, Gare D’Austerlitz, Gare du Nord and Gare de Metz railway stations.’

Christiane Jenny, marketing director of Nantes Atlantique Airport said;  ‘SSP’s understanding of the needs of its customers and the brands that would meet those needs was instrumental in securing the deal.’

Nantes Atlantique Airport is the 7th largest in France and the leading airport in the west of the country. Since 2005, the number of passengers using the airport increased by 40% to reach over 3 million in 2010.

The brand line-up

Le Grand Comptoir will serve a menu inspired by classic French cuisine and prepared using the very best ingredients.  It will appeal to passengers in search of a quick coffee, or glass of wine, as well as those looking to sit down to enjoy a meal at all times of the day. Le Grand Comptoir made its first appearance in Lyon, and it was a visit to this outlet to taste the range of food and beverage provided here that convinced the team at Nantes Atlantique the brand was the right choice for their airport. Since its debut in 2006 Le Grand Comptoir has expanded to other locations in France, the US, and, most recently, Oslo, where it is proving very popular with travellers. Le Grand Comptoir will be located at mezzanine level.

The Brioche Dorée will be the first to feature the leading French brand’s contemporary and approachable new look. It will include a ‘grab and go’ section, along with a comfortable 56-seat lounge area, and will be found on the ground floor.

Also on the ground floor there will be a bar called 1.44, named after the hall in which it is located (Hall 1), and the postal address of the Loire Atlantic region.

A café and bar called La Terrasse will be located at the entrance to Hall 2. It will serve a range of freshly-made dishes in a bright and welcoming environment.

Coffee shop Café News will be designed in three distinct areas. A grab and go section will sell items to take-away, while a self-service counter will offer snacks, sandwiches and pastries, as well as hot and cold drinks. A separate lounge area will enable passengers to relax before their flight and catch up with the latest news on video screens. PowerKiss wire-free phone charging will also be available at this outlet.

To make life easier for the busy Nantes traveller, two mobile units will provide additional services across the airport, making travelling from Nantes Atlantique even more convenient. Alto Café will serve fresh coffee, while the Eat’Shop convenience store will offer a range of last-minute essentials for the busy traveller.

Gérard d’Onofrio, managing director of SSP France, said SSP will be bringing a mix of brands that will cater for all who travel through and work at the airport. ‘The flexibility of our portfolio means we can incorporate a range of facilities from a lounge area to staff dining to service at the gate in just seven brands, which span fast food to table service dining.’
