Sparkling new edition to Birmingham Airport

SSP News Release 23-February-2011

A new Champagne and wine bar, Blanc et Noir, is making its UK debut at Birmingham.

Blanc et Noir, which is described as a premium but accessible experience from environment to menu, has been developed for the UK Market specifically for Birmingham Airport.

Situated in the Departure Lounge, airside, the bar offers 30 seats and a range of value promotions within an intimate, luxurious environment. It has been developed in response to consumer insights which show that passengers still enjoy occasionally treating themselves, despite recessionary pressures.

As well as a range of carefully selected Champagnes and some of the finest wines of the world, Blanc et Noir will offer quality coffees, continental, mezze and cheese platters and open sandwiches. For a limited time only, customers can enjoy some ‘Afternoon Artistry’  which includes king prawns, Scottish smoked salmon, rocket and watercress, buttered artisan sesame bread and 125ml glass of Albert Beerens Brut Reserve NV Champagne – all for £16.

Wayne Chapman, Brands Director from SSP UK, said: “The opening of Blanc et Noir Champagne and Wine bar at Birmingham Airport is a key part of our redevelopment of the retail and catering environment within the terminal. We are constantly looking at ways to connect with and welcoming new customers and such an impressive addition as this does exactly that, with style.

“Blanc et Noir will sit elegantly in SSP’s portfolio between the luxury of Caviar House & Prunier and the everyman’s contemporary bar with panache. We’re very excited to be able to offer this luxury brand in Birmingham Airport, and it was thanks to our Birmingham based focus groups who loved both the concept and prices which made Birmingham Airport the ideal first choice.  A visit to Blanc et Noir creates a real sense of occasion without being intimidating and helps any journey for all types of customer.”

Richard Gill, Head of Market Development - Commercial from Birmingham Airport said: “This concept was the ideal choice for a range of passengers. Whether it is holidaymakers looking to start their trip in style or business travellers, we believe the new Champagne bar will appeal to passengers who are looking for something extra special. The opening of Blanc et Noir is the latest stage in the £13m terminal redevelopment  and it widens the choice available to passengers seeking refreshment while waiting to board flights.”
