SSP scoops three top prizes in airport social media awards

SSP, The Food Travel Experts, has won three of the top prizes in ‘The Moodies’, the world’s first airport-specific digital, mobile and social media awards.

The company, which operates restaurants bars and cafés including brands such as Upper Crust, Millie’s Cookies and M&S Simply Food at over 140 airports and 250 rail stations worldwide, won the prizes for the food and beverage operator with the best Facebook page and the best Twitter feed, and for the best use of social media overall. All of the awards were for its work with its Caffè Ritazza brand. The company was also highly commended in the best marketing campaign and best mobile app categories. The competition, which is run by leading travel retail trade publication The Moodie Report, attracted over 160 entries.

Rick Stavast, SSP’s chief marketing officer said that winning the awards marked the considerable achievements the company had made in a fast-moving space. ‘Social media is now regarded as an essential marketing tool by any company of note, and we are delighted to be recognised as having a solid understanding of this complex arena. We’re very proud to be acknowledged as experts in how to communicate more effectively with consumers who are increasingly leading more and more of their lives online.’

The judging panel was led by The Moodie Report director of digital media and innovation Matt Willey, together with Appleyard Communications’ director Avril Appleyard, and BBC future media and technology/BBC online social media executive Nick Reynolds.

Commenting on the initiative, Matt Willey said; ‘These awards were designed to champion and reward thought leadership, innovation and consumer interaction in the social media environment. The exceptional list of winners proves that the airport community has truly embraced social and digital media, making huge strides forward in the way businesses interact and engage with travellers. The judging panel was faced with some tough decisions across all categories, with strong entries from a diverse range of business. The winners of the inaugural airport-specific digital, mobile and social media awards, we feel represent the most accurate picture of the social and digital media landscape in the airport community to date.’
