SSP brings Copenhagen Restaurant Favourites to Copenhagen Airport
SSP News Release 28-October-2011
SSP and Copenhagen Airports continue their strong working relationship with the signing of a seven year contract involving the flagship food and beverage outlets at Copenhagen Airport. The new deal will see the launch of two of the city’s most popular restaurants MASH and Le Sommelier at the airport.
Carsten Nørland, vice president of Copenhagen Airports, said; ‘When we were looking to refresh our food and beverage offer, we wanted to incorporate a good mix of international names and ‘local heroes’. SSP was able to introduce two strong Copenhagen brands that have long been on our wish list. We are excited to continue the strong working relationship with SSP and look forward to offering some of the best names in Copenhagen to our passengers in 2012.’
The team behind both Le Sommelier and MASH is delighted to be showcasing its restaurants at the airport. ‘Operating at a prestigious location such as Copenhagen Airport has long been an ambition of ours,’ says Francis Cardenau, a founding partner of MASH and Le Sommelier. ‘Opening in Copenhagen Airport and working with SSP will undoubtedly help us to raise the global profile of our brands and hopefully create opportunities for us to expand internationally, perhaps in other international airports’.
In addition to these two concepts, SSP will also be opening two new free flow outlets called Food Market and More. SSP will be joining forces with a team of high profile Danish chefs to develop a diverse menu which will include soups, sandwiches, salads and pastries to grab and go alongside a selection of pizzas, burgers and other hot dishes.
Henrik Andersen, who heads up SSP’s Danish operations, said the new contract will consolidate the company’s business in one of its key territories. ‘Scandinavia has always been an important market for us at SSP. This new win will allow us to build on our considerable success in the region.’
SSP has operated at Copenhagen Airport since 1975, and today it is Denmark’s largest food and beverage business. The contract at Copenhagen Airport is worth £170 million.
A Taste of Copenhagen on the go
Inspired by the great steakhouses of New York, MASH (Modern American Steak House) offers a sophisticated American dining experience with a twist of Danish informality. MASH opened in down-town Copenhagen just over two years ago. It quickly gained a reputation as the city’s must-visit steakhouse and has been fully booked every night since its opening. It serves cuts of outstanding quality meats, including NY Strip, Ribeye and Porterhouse steaks, complemented by an interesting and carefully considered wine list.
Le Sommelier Bar and Bistro is a leading light of Copenhagen’s culinary scene, and soon passengers will be able to experience its modern French bistro-style food and atmosphere at the airport. Designed to meet a broad variety of customer needs from early in the morning to last thing at night, Le Sommelier Bar & Bistro will appeal to those looking for a quick beer and a snack at the bar as well as those with more time to enjoy a leisurely meal in a more laid-back lounge area.
