SSP takes top honours at first FAB awards

SSP scooped four of the top prizes at the 2011 Airport Food and Beverage awards. The company won the first award of the evening for Best Non-Alcoholic Beverage Outlet with Perfect Day at Frankfurt Airport, followed by the Best Bar award, for the iconic Center bar at Zurich Airport. The best Food-Led Café Bar/Restaurant award went to Le Grand Comptoir at George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Houston, while the Best Self Service/Assisted Service award was given to Hong Kong International Airport’s International Food Court at the airport’s West Hall.

 

Commenting on the wins, SSP CEO Andrew Lynch said; ‘Standards are constantly improving in the airport food and beverage business and today’s airport passenger expects excellence. I’m delighted that so many of our outlets have been recognised as among the very finest against some impressive contenders. This is a reflection of the strength of our outstanding brand portfolio and consumer focus that underpins the success of our business.’

 

Martin Moodie, the editor of the leading trade publication The Moodie Report, which hosted the event, said; ‘We believe that food and beverage represents

arguably the airport industry’s most exciting revenue growth opportunity. The FAB awards recognise the best and most innovative practice across a range of categories.’

 

Larnaca International Airport (Cyprus Airports F&B) took home the award for Best Overall Airport (less than 10 million passengers).  Frederic Podonowski of SSP received the award alongside Marios Loucaides, Chairman of the Board of Cyprus F&B. SSP is one of the partners in Cyprus F&B together with ARI retail operators and local companies CTC and Louis. CTC and ARI are also running the retail operation and are two of the nine partners in Hermes who are the airport operators.

 

Sydney Airport was given the prize for Best Overall Airport F&B Offer – 10 to 25 million passengers (Sydney Airport Corporation Limited). At Sydney, SSP operates Danks Street Depot (which was shortlisted for Best Sandwich), and Bambini Wine Rooms (which was shortlisted for Best Wine-led Bar), Trattoria Prego, Caviar House & Prunier, Montreux Jazz Café and Itacho Sushi.  

 

Hong Kong International Airport (where SSP is the biggest F&B operator), won the award for Best F&B Marketing and Promotions Campaign) for its Very Very Delicious initiative.
