SSP named the UK's 23rd biggest private company by Sunday Times Deloitte Top Track survey

SSP News Release 21-June-2010

SSP was this week ranked 23rd in a major survey of the biggest privately owned businesses in the UK. The Sunday Times Deloitte Top Track 100 Survey is compiled for leading UK newspaper the Sunday Times by research specialists Fast Track. This year’s result sees the company’s position rise from 30th in 2008 and 27th last year. Also featuring on this year’s list are major UK household names including Virgin Atlantic, Alliance Boots, John Lewis, Arcadia and Thames Water.

Commenting on the placement, SSP CEO Andrew Lynch said: ‘We are delighted to see our position rising in this important survey. A number of factors were instrumental in our ability to continue to trade successfully during the down-turn and lay the foundations for our on-going growth as the economic climate began to improve. These include the introduction and development of practical initiatives to ensure we deliver high standards of service and experience, such as our Rosen College training programmes and rigorous mystery customer campaigns. These are combined with offering the value consumers demand, via initiatives such as our consumer value programme TravelWise. Operational effectiveness and efficiency (including productivity initiatives such as our Perfect Site programme), also kept our business healthy during tougher conditions last year."

Stuart Counsell, head of the private companies programme at Deloitte, the title sponsor of the league table, commented: ‘The results clearly show that many private companies are delivering strong growth through revised strategies and operational efficiencies. However, in an uncertain economic climate, companies still need to strike an appropriate balance between anticipating growth as the economy recovers and controlling cost exposure if it doesn’t.’
