SSP News Release 1-April-2010


• SSP opened a Burger King at Chiang Mai, and a Kopitiam cafe at Hat Yai in March.


• SSP is to be a key sponsor of the ACI Airport Cities Conference and Exhibition in Bejing in April. It will also be a main sponsor of the ACI Europe Conference and Exhibition, in Malta, which also takes place in April.

Barista Championships

• The Caffè Ritazza World Barista Championships are now underway. The Grand Final of the event will take place in September in Rome.


• Recent openings in France include a new Instant Café in Gare de Lyon.

• SSP France has donated €15, 000 to the Haiti relief effort.


• In March, SSP opened a new Panos outlet at Charleroi, and a Coffee Club at Brussels rail stations.


• Restaurant Stockholm at Stockholm Central Station has been awarded three forks in the latest Michelin Guide. Altitude at Geneva Airport was also listed in this year’s edition.


• Recent openings in the UK include a new Upper Crust at Birmingham International Airport.

• The final of SSP UK’s National Barista Championship took place on 30th March. Seven finalists took part in the event, during which they had to produce four espressos, four cappuccinos and a signature drink to expert standards.

• Product Development Manager Hannah Saunders won the top trophy at the Menu Innovation and Development Awards for her work with Camden Food Co.


• O’Learys was named Franchise System of the Year by the Swedish Franchise Association.


• SSP has won contracts to operate a restaurant and café at Oulu Airport and a restaurant café and bar together with a Duty Free unit at Rovaniemi.


• SSP America was awarded the trophies for Best New Food and Beverage Concept, Food Operator with the Highest Regard for Customer Service, Best Airport Design and Best Food and Beverage Brand Operator at this year’s ARN Awards.

SkyTrax Awards

• SSP airport clients topped the polls in this year’s SkyTrax Awards. Singapore Changi was named Airport of the Year, Hong Kong International Airport picked up the accolade for the world’s best for dining, and Helsinki Airport was voted best airport in Northern Europe. Abu Dhabi Airport also scored a success and won the most improved airport title.


• SSP’s new units at Malaga Airport are now open. The opening event, which was attended by His Royal Highness King Juan Carlos, received considerable coverage in the local Spanish and international trade press.
