SSP News Release 1-February-2010


• SSP has opened the first commercial lounge at Gothenburg Central Station. The lounge is already proving popular with travelers, and is being promoted by SSP’s partner Jernhusen with a voucher programme which will allow them to visit the lounge for free during the first few weeks of opening.

• A food and beverage event hosted by Arlanda Airport and SSP to promote shrimp sandwiches resulted in a 12% increase in sales. The event featured promotional hosts dressed in traditional fishing costumes to create interest in the product.

• SSP Sweden served five different buffets at an Open House event at Kulturens Hus in Lulea. The buffets served featured Nordic, Asian, Italian cuisines as well as seafood and desserts.

• SSP also provided the catering for a corporate hospitality promotional event at Arlanda Conference and Business Centre. The event was targeted at conference sellers.

• Stefan Sivberg has been appointed as SSP Sweden’s new Financial Director.


• The Altitude restaurant has been listed in the latest Michelin Guide. It is one of only 35 restaurants in the Geneva region to be mentioned.


• The new Via Spa and Via Lounge at Helsinki Airport , both operated by SSP, are now open. A press launch event in December was attended by over 100 international journalists.

• Powerkiss wireless mobile-phone charging is now available at SSP Finland’s café Alvar A and the Via Lounge.

• SSP Finland’s best ever sales figures received wide-spread coverage in national media. Both average ticket and penetration improved during the period.

• The launch of SSP’s promotional venture in partnership with the Finnair Plus frequent flyer programme received extensive coverage in Finnish press.


• A Bonne Journée has opened at Champeret station, and a Starbucks coffee shop has opened at Montparnasse Station.

• An interview with Gerard d’Onofrio will be featured in the February edition of Neo-restauration magazine.

• In December, a gold medal was awarded to SSP’s Metz team for their high standards of cleanliness and quality of service at the Provincial Railways and Motorways Convention.

• SSP raised over 33,000 euros for poverty charity Action Contre La Faim.

• The Food Village at Lyon Saint-Exupéry has been refurbished with a fresh new rustic design.


• Recent openings in the UK include Burger King (at Kings Cross and Victoria stations), Camden Food Co (at Leeds station), Upper Crust (at Wimbledon, Paddington and Waterloo stations as well as Digbeth coach station and Newcastle Airport). Pumpkin cafes have opened at Shenfield, Derby and Wimbledon stations and a Whistlestop has opened at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

• The Millie’s cookies brand is celebrating its 25th birthday, and a number of events and promotions are planned during 2010.

• Dublin Airport’s Ziad Abi Nakhoul is to represent Ireland in the World Coffee in Good Spirits Competition.


• The launch of ‘The Obama Burger’ at O’Learys Singapore received widespread press coverage across China, Taiwan and elsewhere across the Asia Pacific region. The burger, on sale at the leading tourist attraction the Singapore Flyer, was created to commemorate the visit of the US President, who was in town for the APEC summit.


• SSP’s recent success in the Motorway Service Area business has received considerable press coverage across Germany.


• The Milestone unit at Århus Airport has been rebranded KokPit.

• A unit at Aalborg Airport is being rebranded as three new units - a Point, a ToGo and a generic café.

• SSP’s Monach motorway restaurants are now being upgraded and will feature newly designed interiors as well as a new menu.

• Good to Go has been launched within Kitchen and Co at Copenhagen Airport.
