SSP News Release 1-March-2010


• SSP’s new units at Malaga Airport are to be formally unveiled on 16th of March. The opening of the airport’s new terminal will be marked by a high-profile ceremony attended by His Royal Highness King Juan Carlos.

• The official opening of a number of new units at Gran Canaria Airport took place earlier in February. SSP now operates a total of 18 outlets at the busy tourist airport.

• Chef Dani García who worked with SSP to create Malaga’s Lamoraga Airport led a session on airport dining at the prestigious gastronomy summit – Madrid Fusion.

• Café&Té at Bilbao was named Best Outlet by rail operator ADIF.

United States

• Famed steakhouse The Palm has opened at New York’s JFK Airport. UK

• Recent openings in the UK include the Chinese concept YamYamToGo at London’s Stansted Airport, Whistlestop at Paddington.

• A Food Village freeflow concept at Manchester Airport has also opened. The outlet, which has been inspired by Manchester’s Bolin river, provides hot meals in a picturesque seated setting with a grab and go section for those with less time to spare.

• A Valentine’s Day promotion for Millie’s allowed the more romantic of SSP’s UK customers to personalise their cookie with a message for a loved-one.

• The SSP UK Coffee Factor Barista Championships Final will be held on 30th March.


• SSP France has donated 15,000 Euros to the victims of the Haiti earthquake.


SSP has won a seven plus two year extension on its contract at Zurich Airport. As part of a CHF 8million improvement programme, the Holiday Bar will be re-furbished and rebranded as a sports bar. In addition, bakery concept La Corbeille will also be re-developed among other significant changes.


• The first Starbucks in Sweden opened on 16th February at Arlanda Airport.

• Client promotion Good Morning Arlanda was launched to create interest in breakfast offers at the airport.

• Sweden’s Booster X regional contest has reached its climax. All wining units managed to sell more items per ticket, as well as increase total sales.


• A Montreux Jazz Café is to open at Sydney Airport. The move follows the successful opening of five outlets at the airport last year.

World Travel Awards

• Singapore Changi, Zurich and Dallas Fort Worth were all named Best Airport in their categories at this year’s World Travel Awards. All are airports where SSP runs food and beverage operations.


• The TravelWise value programme is being rolled out and extended this summer. The promotion will be featured in more countries, and will cover an even wider range of brands and products.
