New contract win for SSP Spain at Valencia

SSP News Release 7-February-2012

SSP has been awarded a contract to operate three new outlets at Valencia Airport’s new terminal extension, which is scheduled to open later this summer. The deal is valued at approximately €7.5 million over eight years.

Café & Té is one of Spain’s best-known names, and has a particularly strong presence in Valencia. The new outlet, which will be located in the arrivals hall, will feature an outdoor terrace and has been chosen for its appeal to airport staff as well as passengers. It will offer a range of snacks and sandwiches such as jamón ibérico and mozarella panninis or potato tortilla baguettes for those who want to ‘grab and go’, as well as light meals and a selection of beers and wines. The menu will also include frappés and the classic Spanish chilled drink Horchata.

SSP currently operates 14 Burger King outlets across Spain, and the brand is highly popular among passengers at Spanish airports. The existing landside SSP-operated Burger King at Valencia has achieved high sales figures since it opened, and the new restaurant, which will be located airside, is expected to perform even more strongly.

The Caffè Ritazza brand has an established reputation in Spain, having traded well for a number of years in Lanzarote and Malaga. The new outlet at Valencia will be located in the check-in hall. It will feature a bar area, and will offer a range of sandwiches together with a number of locally-sourced products including a selection of Spanish wines. SSP is currently working with a leading culinary school to add a number of Spanish specialities to the classic Caffè Ritazza menu, including a range of tapas to complement the selection of Spanish wines and beers.

At all outlets, SSP will, wherever possible, be using locally sourced ingredients and the company is working closely with a number of local agencies including Alicante Wines, The Valencia Citrus Fruits Regulatory Council, and The Valencia Oil  Denominación de Origen.

Commenting on the win, Blanca Ripoll, Managing Director of SSP Spain said; ‘This latest win is the last of the four renewals we have been negotiating, and after being successful at Ibiza, Gran Canaria and Tenerife South we’re delighted to have also won here. Having operated here for over 22 years, we have considerable experience of meeting the needs of the traveller in Spain. Winning this new business underscores our credentials as true experts in the Spanish market.’

The new venture will employ 50 people. SSP has operated at Valencia for over nine years.
