SSP brings leading Asian brand Saboten and premium bakery name Panopolis to Changi

SSP has secured two new deals to open a Saboten outlet and a Panopolis bakery at Singapore Changi Airport.

The new Panopolis will be located in the departure area of Terminal 3. With its comfortable lounge seating area, it will offer customers a tranquil environment in which to relax while enjoying spectacular views of the airport apron.

Commenting on the debut of the brand in Singapore, Daren Lau, managing director of SSP Asia said; ‘Our client wanted a café concept, and Panopolis offers a high-quality and innovative alternative to the standard names. The fact that it was chosen to replace a brand that is already very popular in Singapore and across Asia demonstrates the quality of Panopolis and our client’s confidence in its success.’

The evidence would suggest that this confidence is well-placed. Panopolis is already trading well above expectation at Hong Kong International Airport, and as the airports have a similar passenger profile, Lau expects the brand to do equally well at Singapore. ‘Panopolis is highly original and consumers at Singapore are always keen to try new experiences. Our recently opened Caffè Ritazza at Terminal 1 is already trading strongly and building on this success, we are certain that this new outlet will be similarly popular.’ 

Saboten is the leading Tonkatsu (fried pork) brand in Japan renowned for its unique sauce recipes. Since it started trading in 1966, it has gained huge popularity with over 500 restaurant and deli locations throughout Asia. 2009 saw rapid growth for the brand with 17 new store openings in Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.

The new unit at Singapore is centrally and conveniently located in a highly visible area of Terminal 1, easily accessible to both passengers and any airport visitors.

This latest contract award reinforces SSP’s position as the leading food and beverage operator in Changi International Airport. ‘We have had a long and successful partnership with the team at Changi, and we are delighted to be working with them to open these original new outlets,’ continues Lau. ‘This new venture gives us a great opportunity to develop our business at this highly prestigious airport. Saboten and Panopolis are outstanding brands that appeal to our clients as well as our consumers, and will do much to enhance the choice of food and beverage at Changi.’
